National Knife Amnesty
A National Knife Amnesty runs in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland from 24 May to 30 June 2006. The Amnesty is being run in partnership with ACPO. In order to support the Amnesty the Home Office has produced a creative poster campaign, and designed an over-arching brand for the amnesty, to help forces tie their own activities into the nationwide campaign.

To publicise the key details of the amnesty (when, where and how to hand in your knife)
To challenge the culture which views the carrying of a knife as normal and appropriate
To demonstrate Police and Home Office commitment to tackling knife crime
To reassure the public that action is being taken to make the streets safer
Carrying a knife is not an effective form of self-defence
If you bin your knife at police station during the amnesty (May 24 – June 30) you won’t be prosecuted
The safest way to dispose of a knife is by wrapping it in cardboard or thick paper
The Home Office and Police are taking knife crime seriously
