About The Site

The Crime Reduction Website is aimed at practitioners to help
them achieve and sustain reductions in crime and disorder. The
website was launched in July 2000 by the Home Secretary in response
to a need for a web-based interactive resource where practitioners,
policy-makers and others can find guidance on good practice to which
they can add new ideas and identified local solutions.

The Toolkits
are an integral part of the website and provide a consolidated and
comprehensive approach to crime reduction through partnership
working. The Toolkits adopt a problem-solving approach for use by
police, local authorities, health, voluntary and private sectors,
and others involved in helping to reduce crime and disorder locally.

The website is designed to be a working tool. It is text-rich to
meet the need for hard information to be accessed quickly and to
ensure that website pages look the same on different browsing
software. Pages are fast to download and print clearly on a variety
of hardware.

The Crime
Reduction Centre
manages the website on behalf of the wider
crime reduction community. The active participation of Home
Office
policy units, other government departments, the
police
, local authorities and other groups (such as Secured
by Design
) is a major feature in ensuring that the site remains
relevant to the needs of its users.

The website is developed and managed in partnership with the Association
of Chief Police Officers (England & Wales)
, the Local
Government Association
, Nacro,
Crime Concern, Centrex,
Criminal Justice IT and the Home
Office
.
